In our pursuit of the sustainable aquaculture, environmental conservation, and product traceability, our company is taking a comprehensive approach by actively seek and maintain essential certifications.
AQUACULTURE
MEL Certification
MEL certification is Japan’s eco-label system for seafood, utilizing ASC standards. Recently, MEL has gained global recognition as a certification system. Collaborating with local producers, we obtained Ver 1.0 certification for red sea bream in 2022 and Ver 2.0 for yellowtail in 2023.
PROCESSING & CHAIN OF CUSTODY
HACCP (EU・USA)
HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) systems for the United States and the European Union are internationally recognized quality process management systems that ensure compliance with the food safety and hygiene standards of the export destinations. Both certifications entail stringent requirements, including facility standards, documentation, and traceability, demanding the highest level of sanitation management in the world. Kainan Seafood Center in Wakayama obtained the HACCP certification for the USA in 2006 and EU HACCP certification in 2015.
Chain of Custody
To ensure the proper distribution of ASC and MEL certified products, it is crucial to maintain traceability and prevent the mixing of non-certified products. The Chain of Custody certification ensures that such mechanisms for processing and distribution are in place. Our company obtained this CoC certification for our three processing facilities in 2022.
ISO22000

ISO 22000 is an internationally recognized certification for food safety management systems. It aims to establish a comprehensive approach to food safety management by encompassing the entire food chain, not just the manufacturing process. The Kainan Seafood Center achieved certification in 2022.
